Reaching out to Youth

Friends@YOG

A culture & education initiative of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, Friends@YOG is a ‘twinning programme’ endorsed by the International Olympic Committee. It offers a platform where young people of the world can come together to connect to the Olympic Movement, learn about each other’s cultures and build lasting friendships.

Under Friends@YOG, all Singapore schools will be paired up with two schools from each of the 205 National Olympic Committees’ home country.

Olympic Education in Schools

Olympic Education Programme (OEP)

The Singapore Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) has developed an Olympic Education Programme (OEP) for all students in Singapore to connect the young people in Singapore to the Olympic movement.

The objectives of the OEP Programme are to provide platforms for students to:

  • learn more about the Olympic Movement
  • embody, embrace and live out the spirit of Olympism and the Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect prior to, during and beyond the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games
  • increase their awareness of the various issues related to Sport (e.g. careers in sports, anti-doping, well-being and healthy lifestyle)

To meet the above objectives, SYOGOC has collaborated with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to produce 3 OEP Resource Packs (OERP) for students aged between 7 and 19 years old, with one each for students at the Primary, Secondary and Pre-University levels.

Youth Olympic Games Events for Schools

As part of the Olympic Education Programme (OEP), the Singapore Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) is also organising a series of Youth Olympic Games (YOG) events with various partners. Such events afford our young people an experiential learning platform to embody, embrace and live out the spirit of Olympism and the Olympic Values in creative ways and to have fun whilst connecting to the Olympic movement.

Examples of such YOG events include:

  • Photo Art Competition 2009
  • Sports Quiz 2010
  • DanceWorks! 2010
