The Youth Olympic Flame lighting ceremony will be held in Greece in mid-July 2010, and thereafter travel to the various Celebration Cities. Details of the Flame lighting ceremony as well as the flight plan are being planned right now and more information will be shared when available.

In discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and National Olympic Committees (NOCs), the main considerations in the choice of the cities were that their vibrancy in sports, arts, music, fashion, technology and education is appealing and interesting to the youth of the respective continent. Other considerations are the city's infrastructural support and available resources for organising the city celebration.

However, it is not just a case of the cities being selected, but also that of the cities making the choice to be part of the Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame. It shows that the cities recognise the importance and significance of the Youth Olympic Flame and how it can promote the Olympic values to the international community and further the Olympic Movement.

In each city, the Youth Olympic Flame will be welcomed in a city celebration where the people of the city and the continent will be invited to witness the lighting of the cauldron and join in the celebration.

Discussions with the Celebration Cities are still ongoing and more details on the programme and activities will be announced later.

Everyone is invited to join in the city celebration to welcome the arrival of the Youth Olympic Flame for the first YOG to that continent. Athletes and youth from the city, as well as those from the continent will be invited to witness the lighting of the cauldron and join in the city celebration. More details will be announced later.

There will not be a traditional torch relay run in the Celebration Cities. But the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) will work with the NOCs in the continent and the Celebration City to involve the people from the city and continent to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Flame.

The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games is an event that will have youth as one of its largest groups of participants, but it is also an event for everyone, not just youth. The Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect are values that everyone can identify with, and it is through the values, the embodiment of these values in our daily lives and in our interaction with one another that everyone can identify with what the YOG stands for.

No, you do not have to submit multiple applications. Each application is tied to the applicant's NRIC number, and we will only accept one application per NRIC number.

No, applications for torchbearers are non-transferable. Upon selection, torchbearers will be required to register themselves in person and produce their NRIC/passport for verification.

Torchbearers will be selected by random balloting, and submitting more deeds will not increase your chances of being selected. However, we encourage you to live by the values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect in all aspects of your daily life, and share these deeds of Excellence, Friendship and Respect on the Million Deeds Challenge site so that others may be inspired by your example.

Deeds of Excellence, Friendship or Respect need not be about completing something great or difficult. It is also about doing everyday things with a great spirit and knowing that every act, big or small, makes a difference to those around us.

For example:

Friendship: Giving a smile and saying "thank you" to the canteen operator who served you a drink.

Excellence: Staying back after school to rehearse for a school play

Respect: Giving up your seat in the bus to someone who needs it more.

You don't have to be an athlete or a youth to be a torchbearer. We welcome applications from everyone as long as you are at least 12 years of age (born on or before 1 January 1999)

Torchbearers will not need to sprint; they can jog the distance at a pace that they find comfortable. If you are physically challenged and require an aid to travel the distance, please indicate your needs in your application and we will try our best to accommodate them. Rest assured that you will stand as much a chance as everyone else to become a torchbearer.

There is only a minimum age of 12 (you must be born on or before 1 January 1999), but no maximum age. As long as you are physically capable of jogging 100m distance and can carry the torch which weighs approximately 1 kg without harm to your health, you may apply to be a torchbearer.

No, deeds posted on the Million Deeds Challenge website via Twitter cannot be used for the torchbearer application as we need you to fill in the torchbearer application form. Please log in to your Million Deeds Challenge/ WhyOhGee account and post a deed from 12 March to 15 April 2010 for your torchbearer application.

It is about the length of a football field.

You may have to run on the roads. It will be safe as the lanes for torchbearers will be closed to traffic while the torch relay is going on. Torchbearers will also be protected by vehicles in front and behind them.

No, there will not be a practice run or rehearsal but we will prepare torchbearers sufficiently before the event. Of course, you can always practise running 100m while carrying a 1-kg weight!

Torchbearers will need to attend at least one briefing session in July prior to the relay. They should also set aside half a day on the actual day of the run. This duration will include reporting, final briefings and the torch relay event itself.

Torchbearers will need to arrange for their own transport to the reporting points for each relay session. However, torchbearers will be ferried from the reporting points to the location that they will run, and to a dismissal point after that.

We regret that we will not be able to reimburse any transportation costs.

Torchbearers will each be issued with the official torchbearer uniform of a polo t-shirt and shorts in their size. Torchbearers should wear their own running footwear.

Yes, we encourage all torchbearers to get their family members and friends to cheer them on during the run. Members of the public will be able to watch the relay from the sides of the road and can take pictures and videos as well.

We will try our best to assign you a route that is close to your home or community. However, this may not always be possible due to the large number of torchbearers and logistical considerations.

Due to the large number of torchbearers, we are unable to allow torchbearers to choose the day on which they would like to run. The route is planned to cover Singapore district by district, so the day that you run will be dependent on the district that you are assigned to.

The torch will weigh about 1kg, and will not be hot to touch. Please refer to our page on the torch and cauldron design for more details.

The torch will be lit with an open flame, but it will be safe to hold while running. All necessary precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of torchbearers, including safety briefings.

There will be no international torch relay for Singapore 2010. For the international leg of the Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame (JYOF), the Flame will visit one city in each continent – Berlin, Dakar, Mexico City, Auckland and Seoul, where the Flame will be welcomed at a City Celebration.
