The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) and the Young ChangeMakers (YCM) under the National Youth Council (NYC) is introducing a grant scheme to inspire youths to embark on YOG-themed projects within their schools or communities.

You CAN! Create Action Now for Singapore 2010.

The Singapore 2010 being for youth by youth, we would like to encourage all of you out there to take ownership and Create Action Now!

‘Hmmm, what projects can I do?’

To give you a head start, take a look here to see what are some of the ideas/projects that aspiring youths have done previously. Come, brainstorm and create your own project now!

• Organise a 2010m fun run, try-outs of handball, wrestling, modern pentathlon (fencing) and equestrian (with real horses!) and a youth concert. (CAN! Team comprises students from NTU, NUS, SIM and SMU)
• Paint the Youth Olympic Spirit on canvas, design YOG-themed sports apparel and badges, create digital animations promoting Singapore 2010 YOG. (By Temasek Design School students)
• Create YOG-themed digital games (promoting Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship & Respect) using World of Warcraft platform. (Singapore Games Creation Competition by Nanyang Polytechnic)
• Collect 12,000 shoes as part of Go Green Day and use them to reproduce the Singapore 2010 Spirit of Youth logo on a football field. Donate shoes to The Salvation Army after the event. (By Temasek Junior College students)
• Paint 10 HDB walls with YOG-themed murals to bring the Singapore 2010 spirit into the heartlands and enliven the living environment. (Project Paint by SMU students)

Some ideas to help you start the ball rolling…

• Invite local sports personalities to share about their experience at your school.
• Organise a sports carnival to encourage friends to pick up a new YOG sport.
• Organise an environmental project to encourage friends and the community to do a part in saving the environment.
• Organise friendly games between your friends and disadvantaged children and youths…
• Work with your school’s library or photography club to put up a photo exhibition on YOG sports, local youth culture or other YOG-related themes.
• Organise a community project to gather friends and the community to contribute for a good cause.
• Work with your school’s or community centre’s art club to create YOG-themed art projects.
• Organise an event in line with local festivals to share about the festivals’ cultural values in line with YOG’s objective to embrace and celebrate cultural diversity.
